We went to Edinburgh as part of our Arts Council Funded research trip to explore Deaf led theatre and develop our approach to making BSL accessible work.
We endeavour to create a deaf and hearing integrated experience to explore feelings around the climate crisis. Working with Deaf performer Maral Mamaghanizadeh, Visual Vernacular composers and directors Deaf VV consultant and director Zoe Mcwhinney and with rehearsal direction from Cherie Gordan and Artis enabler Rachael Veazey.
'Mother Earth's been selling her body to support her kids for too long. She is fuming! This interdisciplinary BSL-integrated show, blending clown, burlesque, puppetry, live film, is a chance to laugh, feel and explore what on earth can be done about this mess we're in. Absolve yourself of some climate guilt/ fear/grief and make room to care. Help put-mama-back-together-again?'
Special thanks to our supportive partners Rachel Veazey -Deaf Explorer, Lisa Cleaver - Core Creatives and Sandra Hall -Friction Arts, and Deborah Wintle Escott - One September, Rachel Rogers Dada Fest and Birmingham Institute for the Deaf. Made possible with funding from Arts Council England.
